Lung and Sinus Support During Cold and Flu Season

Many health care practitioners recommend keeping your nose clean as a first line of defense against unwanted pathogens and microbes entering your body. Most microbes, including virus and bacteria, generally take hold in the nose first then the throat then the lungs. Flushing the nose stops the microbes at the start of the process. Neti pots and irrigators cleanse the nasal passages with a saltwater solution. A daily saline rinse helps sweep bacteria, viruses, and irritants from the nasal cavity and help to keep them from entering the rest of the respiratory system and making you sick. You can use a classic Neti pot, nasal irrigator or saline nasal spray.

An alternative to saline is colloidal silver. It will kill and flush away most foreign microbes and is gentle and easy to use. Sovereign Silver Nasal Spray is the one I like the best and use for my family. I also use the 2 oz Sovereign Silver with the dropper to stop a sore throat in its tracks. Just put a dropper full down each nostril and let it drip into the throat. It will go straight to where the pathogens are taking hold, kill them and flush them away – it’s super effective!

Another effective method for clearing and protecting the respiratory system is by nebulizing hydrogen peroxide. This can be done on a daily basis for cleaning out the respiratory system after a day at work or school. It may also help when you are experiencing early signs of viral or bacterial infections and can help you recover quicker if you do come down with something.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) consists of a water molecule (H2O) with an extra oxygen atom. It is the additional oxygen atom that allows it to inactivate viral pathogens. Viruses are not “alive” per se. They need a live host in which they can infect live cells that then replicate the viral DNA and RNA. Once a cell is infected, newly replicated viruses exit the cell and move on to the next cell to duplicate the process.

So, when we talk about “killing” a virus, we’re really talking about inactivating it by breaking down its structure. This is how mouthwash can inactivate viruses, and why soap works so well. Coronaviruses for example, are held together by a lipid (fatty) coating. Soap, being amphipathic — meaning it can dissolve most molecules — dissolves this fat membrane, causing the virus to fall apart and become harmless.

Hydrogen peroxide works in a similar way. Some of your immune cells actually produce hydrogen peroxide to destroy pathogens. By killing the infected cell, viral reproduction is stopped. So, hydrogen peroxide therapy is in essence only aiding your immune cells to perform their natural function more effectively.

If you’re already presenting with a runny nose or sore throat, some Dr.s recommend using the nebulizer for ten to fifteen minutes, four to six times a day until your symptoms are relieved. It will help clear the respiratory system, clean the blood and boost the immune system.

You can also use nebulized hydrogen peroxide for prevention and maintenance, which may be advisable during flu season, or while the COVID-19 pandemic is in full swing. Dr. Thomas Levy notes in and interview with Dr. Mercola:

“As it is a completely non-toxic therapy, nebulization can be administered as often as desired. Once a day for ten to fifteen minutes can be a very effective preventative treatment.”

“If daily prevention is not a practical option, the effectiveness of this treatment is optimized if used right after an incident like when somebody sneezes in your face or your work day exposed you to lots of people. Don’t wait for initial symptoms. Just nebulize at your first opportunity.”

To inactivate viruses with hydrogen peroxide, all you need is a nebulizer with a face mask that covers your mouth and nose that emits a fine mist, and food grade hydrogen peroxide that is diluted to 1%, or less than 1% if you have any irritation. The microscopic mist, similar to vapor, can be comfortably inhaled deep into your nostrils, sinuses and lungs.

This is a really good nebulizer: Trek S Battery Operated Piston Compressor with AC and DC Adapters. You’ll need to buy a face mask to go with it. This one comes with everything and looks good too Portable Home Nebulizer.

H2O2 Formulation for your nebulizer: Fill a 1 liter bottle with distilled water. Turn this into a saline solution by adding 2 and 1/4 teaspoons sodium chloride (salt) to the distilled water. (The kind of salt used for Neti pots works well.) Then use a 1 ml dropper, which can be found in any 2 oz tincture bottle to drop 3 ml of the 12% food grade H2O2 into the liter bottle of saline. (It’s hard to fill a dropper so if you fill it half way six times you will have 3ml.) This will give you the correct solution to use for the nebulizer. Put 3 ml (six 1/2 dropper fulls) of the saline/H2O2 solution into the nebulizer well and you are ready to go! (You can get 12% food grade H2O2 at most health food stores or on line.)

For more information about the benefits of nebulizing Hydrogen Peroxide here’s a really interesting Bullet Proof Radio podcast of David Asprey talking with Dr. Frank Shallenberger.

Dr. Shallenberger has been a practicing physician for nearly 50 years, both in the fields of conventional medicine and alternative/homeopathic/integrative medicine. He’s revolutionized the practice of anti-aging and preventive medicine by developing a patented method to measure mitochondrial function, metabolism, and oxygen utilization.

He’s also someone who knows more than you might expect on how viruses operate and what you can do about almost any virus in the body. He offers up a unique protocol that includes Vitamins A, C and D, zinc, nebulized hydrogen peroxide, and ozone.

Lastly! To keep your lungs strong you might consider doing lung strengthening exercises. The Wim Hoff Method is easy and very effective, give it a try!
